Candidacy

The application phase for the Puppy Germany 2022 election is closed.

Important Dates:

  • Application phase for candidates will open on 1 February 2022. The deadline for applying is 27 March 2022.
  • The election itself will take place over the Puppy Pride Weekend in Cologne from 3 – 5 June 2022.

If you are interested in becoming a candidate, please read all the information below and if you have questions, contact us.

COVID-19 Hinweis

Our goal is to host the election over the course of several events with public attendance in Cologne. A complete pause in the annual election of Puppy Germany is a possibility. The Corona Protection Ordinance and Corona Test and Quarantine Ordinance of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Corona regulations of the City of Cologne will apply.

Participation by candidates and the public is dependent on these rules. If an election can take place but an audience is not allowed, a winner will be determined based on the online voting result (50%) and a virtual jury vote (50%). See our election rules.

What do you need to know?

We ask candidates to be in Cologne starting Friday evening, 3 June 2022 for the Meet & Greet and Candidate Introduction. The “warm up”, so to say, for us all – candidates, jury, organizers und of course friends, the pup community, and the curious. We request candidates to be available from between 17:00 and 23:00 (rough timeframe). Participation at the “Meet & Greet” is not mandatory, but we would love to have you there.

On Sunday, 4 June 2022 a jury interview will take place. Therefore the candidates should be available on this day (the timeframe is still to be developed). The jury interview is mandatory.

The election itself is on Sunday, 5 June 2022. The full schedule and details will be shared with you as they develop. Candidates must be available from between 14:00 and 22:00 (rough timeframe). The election event is mandatory.

On Sunday evening after the election we welcome the freshly elected Puppy Germany, fellow candidates, and the community to celebrate at the Puppylicious Pride Party. Attending the party in not mandatory, but we would love to have you join us. Entrance to the party is of course free for all candidates.

How do you become a candidate?

First you have to apply! A registration form is available for you. Applicants (m/w/d) must be at least 18 years old and a resident of Germany. Send the completed application to us by e-mail at puppygermany@gmail.com starting 1 February 2022 and before the registration deadline of 27 March 2022.

To keep the election manageable, we have decided to limit the number of candidates to 3 or 4 puppies. At up to 4 applicants, all applicants will be invited to participate as candidates. At 5 applicants or more, we will limit the number of candidates to 3 puppies.

If the number of candidates falls below 2 following the registration deadline and before the election, the Puppy Germany Committee reserves the right to invite additional applicants.

How will the candidates be selected should 5 or more applicants apply?

In this scenario we will hold an online pre-election serveral weeks before the formal election. All applicants who have sent in their application prior to the registration dealine will be invited to participate in the online pre-election. The 3 puppies who receive the most votes in the online election will be invited to participate in the formal election.

The results from the pre-election will also then flow into the final overall election results. The final results will be composed of 33.3% from the online vote, 33.3% from the live public vote at the election, and 33.3% from the jury vote.

We aware of the respective strengths and weaknesses as well as pros and cons here and have agreed on this approach to try to balance these concerns.

PROFILE

Shortly after the deadline for Puppy Germany 2012 applicants, we will be posting online profiles of all registered applicants on our homepage. To do this, we need your help!

What we need from you

  1. 1-2 headshot photos
  2. 2-3 free form photos
  3. 150-200 word profile text
  4. Links to your social media accounts
  5. Video profile

Put effort into the quality and content of the text, photos and videos you provide. For the online vote, these profiles may be the publics’ only chance to learn about you and make a decision on you as a candidate!

We know producing a video may sound daunting! Our goal isn’t to make this hard for you! We want to help the community, especially those not able to attend the election, get a full impression of you. A video shows off your personality in a way that pictures or text can’t!

Should you have concerns or question we are here to help. Putting on the election is a combined effort between us all. Don’t hesitate to contact us and provide feedback!

Here you can see an example profile from last year (without Video due to expired music streaming rights).

The above items must be provided by 6 April 2022 at the lastest.

If you have applied early, you do not need to wait until the submission deadline! Please send each of the individual items as soon as you have them ready. This gives us more time to work with you in editing and preparing your online profile — this will be to your benefit. You can send us updates and edits until the deadline.
